Hardwood Urn Co. is away from the workshop and not accepting orders until Feb. 22, 2023. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Wood Species in our line

Chosen for their beauty and symbolism, six varieties of wood are available to select for your Hardwood Urn design. Each hardwood we carry is harvested in America from sustainable sources.

Whether you select wood based on its color, beautiful grain pattern, or symbolic meaning, each Hardwood Urn is truly one-of-a-kind. The photos below are intended to provide you with an idea of the wood color and grain pattern, but hardwoods vary with each individual tree and cut.

Jeff personally travels to wood mills across the Pacific Northwest to hand-select each piece of wood used to construct a Hardwood Urn. He considers coloration, grain patterns, and distinctive features for each piece - ensuring your Urn will be an individual art piece to treasure.

Cherry

Cherry

Symbolizing:
Beauty.
Compassion.
Awakenings.

Cherry is an all-around wood popular for furniture, millwork, turning, and other projects. Cherry develops a rich reddish-brown patina as it ages. This aging process can be accelerated by exposing the wood to direct sunlight.

Hickory

Hickory

Symbolizing:
Strength. Flexibility.
Persistent and Resilient.

Hickory is among the hardest and strongest woods native to the United States. Hickory is a large tree, with a massive trunk reaching heights of 160 feet with 6-7 feet diameters. Hickory tress have a very long life - up to 350 years.

Maple

Maple (Birdseye)

Symbolizing:
Generous.
Traveller.
Art and Beauty.

Unlike most other hardwoods, the sapwood of Hard Maple lumber is most commonly used rather than its heartwood. Sapwood color ranges from nearly white, to an off-white cream color. We select figured maple that carries the distinctive birds-eye pattern.

Madrone

Pacific Madrone

Symbolizing:
Water lover.
Protection.
Sacred.

A unique Northwestern hardwood with an incomparable warm look, Pacific Madrone is prized for its rich burgundy, salmon, and warm cream color range. Madrone grows in forest openings from British Columbia to Southern California.  Ours is sourced from the Umpqua and Rogue Valleys, where it grows well in the rich soils.

Walnut

Walnut

Symbolizing:
Intelligence.

Focus & Clarity.
Passionate.

Walnut is one of the most enjoyed American hardwoods for its fine-yet-open grain, unique patterns, and bold dark color.  Its unique range of brown coloration puts this wood in a class by itself among hardwoods.

Oak

White Oak

Symbol of:
Strength.

Courage.
Character.

White Oak is a classic hardwood. Oakwood is remarkably strong, heavy, and durable. The Oak is recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation as the official National Tree of the USA.
